Nostalgia of Play

Around March 2020, as parks and playgrounds were being fenced off to prevent the spread of Covid-19, I stumbled across old photographs from when my mom taught Kindergarten in Germany -- in the early 1990s when my family lived there. Children are laughing, gripping the edge of a parachute and running in a circle; a girl tosses a bean bag through a hula hoop. These scenes, along with present-day play structures, served as inspiration for a series of prints centered around the nostalgia of play.

The prints were made using monotype and pronto plate lithography, and completed during my remote artist residency with International Print Center New York in 2020.
